GIVING WORDS TO IMAGINATION

6 Informal Letters That My Students Made Me Write

Informal Letter Writing Examples

Here are the 6 informal letters I wrote for my middle school students to prepare them for academic writing or school exams.

Informal Letter 1

Your friend has invited you to attend his birthday party. Write a letter to him declining his invitation due to your exam.

Dear Sumit,

I am so glad you invited me to your birthday party on 2nd March. Happy birthday to you in advance! However, I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend your birthday party.

Please allow me to explain the reason for declining your invitation. My Annual Exams are going on. I have a mathematics exam on the very next day of your birthday. If the exam was on the same day as your birthday then I would have come after the exam. I hope you understand that distractions before the day of the exam will affect my performance. I vividly remember the fun we had on your last birthday. It is my sheer bad luck that I could not attend your birthday party. Do send me the pictures of your birthday celebration.

Please don’t mind my inability to attend your birthday party. I hope you enjoy your special day.

Your true friend,
Aakash

Dear Papa,

Hope you are fine. I am also fine here. You might be worried about me because I have started residing in the hostel now. I am writing to inform you that I have settled here.

The hostel life is quite different from that of home. It is relatively more disciplined. We have to wake up early in the morning and take care of our things. We need to do everything ourselves. My roommate is very good and the other boys in the hostel are also cooperative. There are fixed timings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is good but I miss the taste of Mom’s food. Though I miss home and everyone a lot, I have adjusted here.

Please do not worry about me. Convey my greetings to Mom.

Your obedient son
Ravi

Dear Ram,

I received the birthday gift you sent me yesterday. I am writing this letter with the Parker Pen you gifted me and I am thankful to you for this thoughtful gift.

Yesterday, I had a party at home and missed you a lot. Remember the fun we had at my birthday last year? It is very nice of you to send such a wonderful gift to me despite shifting to Pune. You still remember my love for exquisite pens. I am truly touched by your affection. I am going to write my Evaluation 2 exams with this pen. I will remember you every time I write with it.

Hope to meet you in the summer vacation. Convey my regards to uncle and aunt.

Your true friend

Dear Ragini,

Hope this letter finds you in good spirits. I am writing this letter to invite you to my place during the summer vacation.

Our summer vacation is starting from 1st July and this time my parents have not planned any trip. I got an amazing idea of spending the vacation with you. You told me before that you wanted to visit Guwahati and experience my city. It would be great if you could plan to come here from Jaipur. Together we will visit the famous Pobitara National Park, Umananda Temple and Maa Kamakhya Temple. There are other famous places over here which I have not visited yet, we will explore those places too. You will fall in love with the greenery and the view of the River Brahmaputra.

Do let me know when your summer vacation is starting. Also, inform me about your plan to visit my house so that I can arrange for our exciting tour of the city.

Your best friend,
Soumya

Informal Letter 5

Write a letter to your friend who just met with an accident wishing him/her a speedy recovery.

X.Y.Z. Road, Guwahati

17 February 2024

Dear Roshni,

I am writing this letter to wish you a speedy recovery. I heard today from my sister that you met with an accident on your way to school yesterday.

She talked to your mother when she explained that a bike had run over your feet and your right leg fractured. I know your leg has been plastered for one month. I understand how difficult it must be for you. Hope the doctor has given you pain relievers. I am sure you are in a lot of discomfort right now. Please get plenty of rest, take your medicines on schedule and eat a variety of fruits to speed up your healing. I am sure your friends at school will help you to cover the missed syllabus. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Please convey my regards to your parents. I hope to hear from you soon.

Your friend
Radha

Informal Letter 6

Write a letter to your best friend sharing your recent life updates and asking about theirs.

C-601, Vasant Vihar
New Delhi

19 February 2024

Dear Anish,

I hope this letter reaches you in good health. I had been trying to sit down and write to you since last week but I got time today from unpacking and organizing my things.

You will be thrilled to know that we have shifted to a new house in Vasant Vihar. As you know we were facing water problems in the previous apartment. We shifted to our new house on 1st February. Also, the annual exams are near so I have been busy studying and helping my parents with organizing the house. I am a little worried about my exams too as I could not study as much as I should have. Besides, I find mathematics in grade 5 difficult. You have always been good at mathematics. You even cleared some of my doubts in grade 4 before you shifted to Bangalore.

I hope things are good at your end. Do write about your experiences in Bangalore. Convey my regards to Aunt Sunita and Uncle Ravi.

Yours truly,
Abhishek
