Ron’s Day Without Internet: A Short Story by Samaira Jain

A boy who cannot live without internet

Once upon a time, in the city of Guwahati, there lived a mother, a father, and a son named Ron. Ron was so fond of the Internet that no matter who came to his house, he would keep using his tablet, or his iPhone. His mother and father were fed up with him and tried to explain to him that he should use the Internet only when needed. But Ron, would chill and say, “Okay! From tomorrow, I am not going to use the Internet.”

But, like any other child, his tomorrow would never come. One day, his grandparents came from the village of Assam to stay a month with Ron and his parents. The village where they used to live was Sualkuchi, also known as the Manchester of Assam. Since that village is on the list of the world’s largest weaving villages, his grandmother brought silk and bamboo handicrafts for him.

Now Ron, a netizen will of course spend more time with his gadgets rather than spending time with his grandparents.

His grandparents were upset to see this happening. They even played many ploys on Ron, to stop him from using his gadgets when it was not needed. But, Alas! Nothing happened! One day, the Internet in their city went away for a day.

Now Ron, a gadget lover, how will he spend a day without his gadgets?

He was grinding his teeth in anger at that moment, and telling his father to take him to a place where Wi-Fi, and Internet both were working smoothly. But, why will the father take him? His grandmother advised him to see the textile of the handicraft that his grandmother had brought for him.

When he was a little over his anger, he asked his grandmother, “Whis textile is this?”

His grandmother laughed and then replied, “It is Muga Silk.”

He then said, “Oh!”

Then, as he was getting bored, he asked his grandfather, “Will you play a board game with me?”

His grandfather said”Sure!”

They were having so much fun, while playing against each other, that until the game was over, Ron forgot about his gadgets. Then, after his game, he ate his dinner and went to sleep. He woke up the next day. He knew that the Internet had returned, but he did not even dare to touch his gadgets. He now used to spend more time with his family members, and his friends, hated his gadgets, and became more curious to know about Muga Silk.
